The bloom of an enchanting flower: The rapid growing of Orthopaedic nursing career
Following the rapid development of orthopaedics, the nursing talents team of orthopaedic department is growing, and the training program of Orthopaedic Clinical Nurse Specialist is buiding up gradually. The nursing care in orthopaedic has made a great change from the classic nursing pattern which depended on the experience, took cared limited in the diseases, and focused on the nursing know ledges and techniques, to a whole new pattern which is characterized by the holistic nursing，the evidence-based nursing and the special nursing closely connected with orthopaedic surgeries and rehabilitations. The Nursing Group also made great achievements. The former chief Wu Xinjuan of Peking Union Medical College Hospital won the 43rd Nightingale Medal in 2011, the present chief Qu Bo hold concurrent post as the vice chairman in Beijing Nursing Association Orthopaedic Society, she makes great contributions to the development of the Group of Nursing and the establishment of the elite nurse team of COA. Ning Ning, the Director of Nursing of West China Medical Center of Sichuan University, has explored Orthopaedic medical integration mode. Gao Xiaoyan, the Director of Nursing of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital, became the vice chairman of Chinese Nursing Association. Li Huiling, the Director of Nursing of First Affiliated Hospital, Soochow University, actively explored the training program of orthopaedic clinical nurse specialist. Yang Xu, the head nurse of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, was the first to establish the Specification of Thromboprophylaxis. During the Chinese Nursing Association Orthopaedic Nursing Congress, committee members fully expressed their academic opinions, and made a strong reception. Overall, in the last year Orthopaedic Nursing do make huge progress, and will go forward in the future.
Since Professor Wang Yan, the President of Orthopaedic Hospital of PLA General Hospital and the Chairman of The Chinese Medical Association Orthopaedic Society, has been the chairman of COA, he put a high value on developing the nursing group, an he will attend the the establishment ceremony of nursing committee of the Seventh International Congress of COA, and awarded the appointment leeters to the new committee managers. The election of the committee based on academic and regional reason. Through the sincere cooperation of the committee, it is expected to make orthopaedic nursing career grow in balance and comprehensively.
In year 2012, because the cooperate of the Nursing Group and all of the colleague of orhtopaedic nursing, the academic communication of orthopaedic nursing in COA become thriving. The number of contributions increase form about 1000 in last year to over 2200, especially the research article and the contribution abroad increase obviously. To improve the quality of the manuscript and communication, we detail refereeing procedure by classifying the article into different diseases to make the refereeing work easier. After the fairly and strictly evaluation, over 200 articles have been selected as oral presentation, other over 300 articles have been selected as Poster communication. Moreover, Professor Wang Yan work hard for the internationalization of the congress, and building relationship with lots of international academic organization, the internationalization degree of COA 2012 increase significantly. The congress will exhibit the domestic and international progresses in orthopaedic nursing, involving Basic Science of Orthopaedic, Spine surgery, Orthopaedic trauma, Joint surgery, Arthroscopic surgery and Sports medicine, Osteo Oncology, Minimally invasive orthopaedic surgery, osteoporosis, foot and ankle surgery, microsurgery, nursing, rehabilitation medicine and combine traditional Chinese and western medicine. The congress also invites the clinical specialist to introduce the forefront knowledge of orthopaedic development, to broaden our outlook. The Nursing Group set the position of the congress’s supervision to do the detail work such as connecting with the speaker, adjusting the atmosphere, handling the emergency. The subject division is still based on the sub-specialties, but has been more detail, the new added subjects include high quality nursing, nursing management, pediatric orthopaedic nursing, rehabilitation nursing, wound nursing, thrombotic nursing, pain nursing. The discussion of these hot topics will be more detailed, more in-depth, more integrative.
The COA 2012 will last for 4 days, it is estimated that 12000 persons will participate in the congress. There will be 2 conference halls, 22 courses, 12 speeches and 4 case discussions about nursing, these is the largest one since the beginning of the COA. It is a best opportunity for all nurses to express the progress of last year. It is believed that all participants could learn the forefront of knowledge and new tendencies in orthopaedic nursing.
The COA 2012 will be hold at the early winter in Beijing. Although the weather is cold, over two thousands contributions will kindle the passion of everybody, because these show the vigor and vitality, and declare the glorious future of the Chinese orthopaedic nursing career. Looking forward to the future, we expect to sincerely cooperate with all colleagues, catching up the development tendency, make the brilliant future of Chinese orthopaedic nursing career.
