I am Surgeon-in-Chief and Medical Director of the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and Professor and Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College.
HSS will be presenting a program at the Chinese Orthopaedic Meeting on Knee Replacement Surgery. This will be like an Instructional Course and will emphasize surgical technique, biomechanical principles of implant design and management of complications of knee replacement. There will be a faculty of four from the HSS. I will also be presenting two papers at the Asia Pacific Arthroplasty meeting, one on the evolution of the condylar design knee replacement and a second paper on the use of a constrained condylar ke replacement without intramedullary stems, a long-term follow-up.
HSS is working with universities and orthopaedic programs in China to share educational curricula for resident training. Also we are continuing to work on implant design which may be better for the Asian population. At HSS, we have a large residency program of 40 residents and over 40 orthopaedic fellows many of whom are international. HSS is very interested in sharing our experience both in clinical and research in orthopaedic surgery.
HSS is the largest orthopaedic hospital in the world performing over 25000 orthopaedic operations per year. This includes over 8000 arthroplasty procedures. HSS is ranked number 1 in the United States by the rating publication US News and World Report. As an orthopaedic hospital, HSS has pioneered many orthopaedic techniques, implants and research initiatives. HSS is continually interested in partnering with the COA to share our experience in clinical care, education and research.
