The contents involve all fileds of the foot and ankle’s basic and clinical research. Based on the domestic situation and development of foot and ankle surgery, we picked out 84 abstracts for oral presentations (include guest speech and tutorials) and 102 posters.
We separated all the abstracts into 7 categories :ankle injury, hind foot trauma, front foot diseases, midfoot diseases, microsurgical reconstruction in foot and ankle injuries as well as basic research. Many abstracts are about ankle instability caused by the complex of the ankle injury and traumatic arthritis. Those tough problems cause high morbidity, and are difficult to deal with , because treatment methods are diversity and individualized. The calcaneal fractures and related complications in the hind foot diseases are still the focus of the clinical diagnosis and treatment, there are nearly 100 abstracts about them . The major diseases of forefoot and midfoot are congenital malformations and podiatric ,the study of hallux valgus surgery and prevention of postoperative complications has reached international highest level. Necrosis of navicular and the reconstruction of foot arch stability attract domestic clinicians’ attention, dozens of studies have done in-depth analysis which is reflecting improvement of foot and ankle surgery and communication with the other countries’ colleagues. Microsurgical reconstruction of the foot and ankle changes to more invasive, which merges functional and cosmetic consideration. The phenomenon shows the development of domestic microsurgery and education achievements recently, by which related complications gradually reduced. Ilizarov technique reveals its unique advantages on tough deformities in foot and ankle. Several studies indicate its widely applications in the those deceases. About 60 abstracts regarding to arthroscopy assisted treatment that shows the booming and the future direction of the foot and ankle surgery. With careful review and deliberation of the academic committee, representative studies will be introduced in this conference, hot issues will be elaborated by specialists tutorials.
Geographily, most abstracts are from big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Xi'an etc. The academic members are relatively active, their studies are spreading with high .Other institutions also provide some high level work. This reflects the rapidly expanding of foot and ankle surgical team and improvement knowledge of foot and ankle diseases. Active academic atmosphere and growing academic groups also attracted surgeons from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan who participate the conference and communicate with surgeons in the mainland.
We should be noted that most of the studies can not compete with the highest international level, only a few studies are original novel, most of them are the retrospective summary studies. In addition, the high out-of-follow-up rate and incomplete case information reduces the scientific guidance. Those will be improved to move forward Chinese development of foot and ankle surgery.
