As an important means of theoretical research, finite element analysis has been widely used in spinal biomechanics, especially in artificial disc replacement. Recent application progress of finite element analysis in artificial disc replacement were summarized in this paper, including the establishment of spine model, three-dimensional ( 3D ) model of the artificial intervertebral disc and 3D model of the artificial cervical and lumbar disc replacement. The advantages, disadvantages and development trends of finite element analysis applied in artificial disc replacement were also explored.
